The original building, seen here, was first built as a boarding house. It remained in operation until 1905 when it was converted into a funeral home by Bromley Sprague and named Bromley & Sons Funeral Home.
In 1956 it was taken over by Charlie & Dubby Zaumetzer and renamed Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home. Charlie & Dubby owned the firm for 49 years and during that time they built an amazing reputation. On the back of the original building was a room that Charlie liked to spend time. It was there that guests and families would go to take a break from the funeral services if needed. Dubby would make her world-famous brownies, and kids from the area would go to get them from her on Halloween.
The business was taken over by Charlie’s former son in-law who ran it from 2005 until late 2019.
In December 2019, Jerod and Chris Heidrick purchased the firm and immediately began updating the facility, website, and added a social media page to make the business fully inclusive.
The original building was destroyed in a fire in 2011 and our beautiful new facility was completed at the end of 2012.
In January 2020, a partial remodel of the front lobby was completed. A closet was removed and a coffee bar was constructed. This has been incredibly well-received, as it gives our guests a place to retreat to get a cup of coffee, tea, hot cocoa; or a cup of ice cold water.
Our building offers our families a large Chapel, which after a remodel by Jerod and Chris, includes an alcove to memorialize our loved ones. This alcove was created to resemble the one used by Charlie and Dubby in the old building. Jerod and Chris also added two projection televisions to the chapel to display the Memorial DVDs offered to our families.
Our building is fully ADA compliant, which also includes an ADA restroom.
We have a well-lit parking lot providing for off-street parking.
Most importantly the professional, caring, personal service we have always offered remains as our mission, to help make a difficult time easier for all those involved.
