Veleta M. Parrish, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and beloved member of the community, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2024. Born on July 24, 1929, in Champlain, NY, Veleta lived a life full of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family.
She was known for her warm smile and compassionate heart, and is survived by her loving son Michael (Julia) Bechard, daughters Lisa Barber and Melissa (Drew) Plumadore, along with her grandchildren William (Carrie) Bechard, John Bechard, Brittany Barber, Michael (Brittany) Plumadore, Emily (Kyle) Plumadore-Prinsen; and her great-grandchildren Ava, Skye, Wynter, Emalina, Boe, and Grant; and her sister-in-law Jane Mayo.
Veleta's deep love for her family was matched only by her passion for her community. She loved going to the American Legion Post #504 to play shuffleboard and talk with friends. She found peace and joy in attending the Church of the Holy Name in Au Sable Forks. Veleta cherished the simple pleasures of life, taking long walks around town, and spending time working on word searches, playing shuffleboard, and enjoying games of bowling.
Throughout her lifetime, she built lasting memories with her large family, showcasing a resilience and strength that never wavered. She will forever be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for all those around her.
She was preceded in death by her son Norbett Bechard, her first husband Raoul Bechard, her second husband Gordon Parrish; thirteen siblings; and her son-in-law Stephen Barber.
Her life will be honored and celebrated at a Funeral Service on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 10:30 am at the Heidrick-Zaumetzer Funeral Home. Following the service, a Graveside Service will be held at St. Peter's Cemetery in Plattsburgh at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 4550 Montgomery Ave., Ste. 1100N, Bethesda, MD 20814.
