Ruth Murray, a loving family member and friend to many, passed away on May 12, 2021, in Jay, NY.
Ruth Murray was born on June 23, 1962. She spent the majority of her childhood in Mayfield, NY and she then moved to Columbia County, NY.
Ruth was successful with anything she set her mind to. She moved up the ladder quickly with the State of New York for a few years; worked for a legal firm, and soon after, she started her lengthy career with the US Postal Service.
Ruth was best known for her love of nature, passion to craft jewelry, her loyalty to those she cared for, and most of all, the undeniable love she had for her grandchildren; Alexander, Camden, Dakota, Roxy, John Callen, Kameryn, Evan, Ethan, and Valerie. Her quick-witty remarks and determination are also certainly not to be forgotten.
She loved baking, fishing, writing poetry, puzzles, astrology, and had a deep passion for collecting beautiful rocks/stones, elephants and buddhas.
Ruth is survived by her spouse Gordon Smith; daughters Nichole Anderson, Courtney (John) Fox; and bonus children Amanda (Dan) Conklin, and Treavor (Rebecca) Smith.
Ruth is preceded in death by her bonus daughter, Sarah Smith, her parents, her sister's Brenda Harris and Debbie Myers, and her great grandmother Martha Hart.
Her final days were spent in the Adirondacks, where she moved about four years ago with her spouse. Those years she enjoyed the calming outdoor environment and scenery. She was very much a people person and could make almost anyone laugh! She enjoyed building friendships with people from around the world on social media.
Ruth was dearly loved by many and will be missed tremendously.
In honoring Ruth's wishes, there will be no services. Her family will have a small gathering during the summer to celebrate her life and call it a "BBQ". Those that know Ruth, know that we must disguise the name to ensure she does not get angry with us - haha.
Ruth truly loved elephants so we ask in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennesse @ https://www.elephants.com/.
