John R. Marshall, 74, of Lake Placid went to be with Jesus on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Adirondack Medical Center, Saranac Lake. He was the husband of Sharon L. (Bubb) Marshall. They had celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary in June.
Born in Lake Placid on June 13, 1950, he was the son of the late Roger W. and Bertha M. (Twining) Marshall. He was a graduate of Lake Placid High School with the Class of 1968 and Northeastern University Class of 1973. He was a lifelong member of Mountain View Bible Church (formerly Pilgrim Holiness Church of Lake Placid) where he was very involved in ministry to young people and served on the church board for many years. He began his career at Camelot of St. Francis Academy in 1973, where he worked as a program counselor for behavioral and emotionally challenged boys. In 1990 he founded the Adirondack Experience: an adventure-based counseling program for at-risk youth. He was the director until 2012 when the program closed, and he retired from this dedicated career. He had a passion for the Adirondacks sharing his love of hiking, skiing, camping, and other wilderness activities with his family culminating in becoming a 46er solo and then along with his family in the same day on Mount Marshall. In 1995, he joined the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service and served as the president from 1998 until 2010. He loved golfing and regularly visited the local golf courses, and he was also known in the community for his annual Christmas wreath making.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Kimberly L. wife of Jonathan (Fay), Matthew J. husband of Annette (Hills), and Michael J. husband of Hannah (Withe) and his grandchildren: Blake and Jenna Fay; Jesse and Mya Marshall; Noah, Levi, Silas, and Miriam Marshall. He was predeceased by two grandchildren: Grace and Dillon Marshall. He is also survived by his two brothers Charles and Rollin Marshall.
Viewing will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Mountain View Bible Church on 6059 Sentinel Road Lake Placid, NY 12946, and Saturday the 24th at 10:00 am with a Funeral to follow at 11:00 am. Following the service interment will be in the North Elba cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Mountain View Bible Church or Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service.
