Jane Peck

February 17, 1926 — June 15, 2023

Jane Hardy Peck entered heaven on June 15, 2023, surrounded by family at CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh. She was born February 17, 1926 in Wilmington, NY, the third of ten children of Keith and Frances Hardy.

She married Dana C. Peck on June 3, 1944 and they were married for 73 wonderful years until Dana passed in 2018. In the early years of their marriage they lived in Boca Raton, FL, Lake Placid and Jay. In 1961 they moved to the farm in Wilmington that had been in Jane's family since the 1840s.

Jane graduated from Au Sable Forks High School and, although she planned to go to college, there was no money so she went to work. During World War II, she worked at government jobs in Schenectady, Lake Placid, Plattsburgh, Washington DC and Boca Raton. Later she was a long time employee at Paleface Ski Center and worked many years at the Wilmington Post Office until retiring.

She lived a life of service to others. Her exemplary service to Church and Community resulted in many awards of recognition, including: Distinguished Service Award from the Church of the Nazarene; Lifetime Achievement Award from the Whiteface Region Business & Tourism Center; and the Liberty Bell Award from the Essex County Lawyers Association. A few of the many ways she served include: Church Board member, Treasurer, Children's Sunday School teacher, Director of Children's musicals, Church pianist until age 96, Secretary / Treasurer at the Wilmington Camp Meeting, and helping in many ways at the Wilmington Library. She used her skills at knitting and crocheting to touch many lives, from making helmet liners for soldiers stationed in cold climates to providing treasured gifts to friends and family. She was selected as the Grand Marshall for Wilmington's 200th anniversary parade; but, was unable to attend because she suffered a broken hip the day before the parade.

She was a gifted poet and public speaker. She was a prolific reader and a life-long learner. She loved her many friends and family; and was always ready to share a homemade chocolate chip cookie, a cup of coffee and a time of chatting.

Jane was predeceased by her husband, Dana C. Peck, and eight siblings (Ruth, Deane, Laura, Lucy, Keith, George, Lyle and Joy). She is survived by her brother, Marvin; and her three sons: Greg; Doug (Jill); and Dana (Marcia); as well as six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

One of her many awards beautifully stated that she was a Lover of God, devoted wife and mother, "Aunt Jane" to many and servant as she reflected God's love for all.
