Jan Shumway

Jan Marie Shumway, 66, of AuSable Forks, NY passed away at her home on Fern Lake, NY on Sunday March 10th, 2024. She was born March 25th, 1957, to Harold and Marion Shumway. Jan grew up in AuSable Forks, NY and graduated from AuSable Valley Central School in 1975.

Jan held numerous roles throughout her life where she cultivated deep connections, thus she built a dedicated and unwavering troop of friends both near and far. Family was the most important thing to Jan. She was the best "Aunt Jan" ever, so much so that even people unrelated to her affectionately called her "Aunt Jan" simply because she embodied that role proudly from all of the love her nieces and nephews had for her. She could always be found cheering from the stands, providing life advice, and asking an abundant amount of questions simply due to her curiosity in all matters of life.

Her true love was enjoying time on the lake in her boats, whether that be a lazy ride through "Bass Alley" or a ride with the wind whipping through her hair. Jan was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A), living sober for the past 28 years.

Left to remember Jan's infectious laugh are her sister, Sue Garcia; niece, Jaimie Garcia; nephew Chad Garcia and his wife Marla; two grand nephews, Carson and Luke Garcia; and her companion, Bruce Locklin.

A private celebration of life will be held at a future date. A special thank you to all of her incredible caregivers at Albany Medical Center, as well as the army of friends who performed more acts of kindness than could ever be listed here.

It is here where Jan not only found fulfilling employment, but where her coworkers are true angels on Earth. The compassion shown to Jan will never be forgotten.
