James Robert Lamoy, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, at the age of 78. Born in Keene Valley, New York, on August 20, 1946 to Victor and Eleanor (Lee) Lamoy, James grew up with a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature, a love that stayed with him throughout his life.
James served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, enlisting on February 7, 1966, and proudly fulfilling his duty until his discharge on May 24, 1968. After returning home, he married Henritta Gowett, and he dedicated himself to a career in landscape maintenance, where he combined his passion for the outdoors with his professional life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings Alan Lamoy and Leon Lamoy.
He is survived by his loving children: Michele Smith, Todd (Jamie) Lamoy, and Nichole (Cliff) Vassar. James also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Shane (Destiny) Welch, Bryan Welch, Kendra Vassar, Nathan Vassar, along with his beloved great-grandchildren, Greyson Welch and Aubrey Welch. He took immense joy in spending time with his family, sharing his love for the great outdoors, and creating lasting memories that will be treasured forever.
James had a zest for life that was evident in his many interests. He loved to hunt and fish, often venturing outside to appreciate the tranquility of nature. He found delight in simple pleasures, such as enjoying bologna sandwiches, indulging in crossword puzzles, and listening to his favorite country music. His playful spirit and warm smile will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
A Graveside Service will be held in his honor at Mountain View Cemetery on January 10, 2025, at 11:00 am, where family and friends will gather to celebrate his life, reflect on the memories shared, and pay their final respects.
