Eugene (Gene) J. Novajosky, 76, of Jay, passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Elderwood of North Creek after battling aggressive cancer. His daughter Chelsea and grandson Joseph were by his side.
Gene was born April 10, 1947 to Edward and Mary (Straka) Novajosky in Bridgeport, CT. In 1970, he met and married Judy Fenton and together they had 2 children, Chelsea and Cassandra. He worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail handler in Trumbull, CT, until he and his family relocated to Jay, NY, in 1986. The couple divorced in the mid 1990's.
Gene joined the Ward Lumber family in 1987. He worked in the saw mill on the edger and in security, retiring in 2014 after 27 years of service.
He loved the Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears and the UConn Huskies. You could always hear him saying "DAAAA BEARSSS!" during a Bears game. Watching football will never be the same for his family. Gene loved camping and going for walks. An avid hummingbird lover, one would always see the hummingbird feeders hanging outside the windows at home the first week in May, a tradition that is currently being followed in his honor.
Gene is survived by his daughters, Chelsea Sprague and her husband Benjamin III, and Cassandra Vincent and her husband Jeremy; his grandchildren Karyn Relation and her husband Ray, William (Billy) Lincoln III and his companion Karisa Hermany, Joseph Lincoln and his companion Alycia McLean, Emylee Deweese and her husband Justin, Sarah Lincoln and her companion Calum St. Dennis, Benjamin (Ben) Sprague IV, William (Will) Sprague, Julia Sprague, Connor Vincent and Landon Vincent; his great-grandchildren Joseph, Zoey and Chloe Anderson, Alizza and Zhayne Relation; Layla, Kendra, William IV, Gavin, Kallie-Ann, Scarlett and Nora Lincoln, Sienna, Lillian and Evelyn Charles; Aubrie, Autumn and Elias Jay Deweese; his brother Michael and his wife Patti, brother Robert and brother Joseph Novajosky and his wife Patty. Gene is also survived by his friend and confidant Ruth H. Malcolm, as well as various friends and extended family.
Gene is predeceased by his parents, older brother Edward, who died in infancy, and granddaughter Gabrielle Lincoln.
Calling hours to honor Gene will be held on Tuesday May 9, 2023, from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at the Heidrick-Zaumetzer Funeral Home, located at 3 College Street, Au Sable Forks, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Name Church in Au Sable Forks. A reception following Mass will be held at the Upper Jay Firehouse on the Valley Road, Jay, NY.
