Dale "Wally" Chester Walton, 71, was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, also known as Poppa Man. He passed away at UVM in Burlington,VT, surrounded by family, on July 8, 2024.
He was born in Lake Placid, NY on October 11, 1952 to Chester M. Walton and Evelyn L. (Wright) Walton. Dale grew up and lived all of his life in a town he called home, Au Sable Forks. Dale and his wife were high school sweethearts and they graduated in the last graduating class at Au Sable Forks High School, Class of 1972.
Dale was a man of all trades. After graduating high school, he worked as an insurance salesman, then later began working at Lake Placid Granite, and then the Town of Black Brook. While working for the town, he also worked part-time with his father, who owned Walton's Plumbing and Heating. Upon his father's retirement, Dale and his brother Craig took over their father's business, which soon became Walton's General Contracting for 30 years. For every job he worked, he took great pride in the many homes he built throughout the North Country, as well as for his family.
Dale was a Fourth Degree member of the Knight's of Columbus in Au Sable Forks.
Dale was a man of few words, but when he spoke, he spoke volumes. His favorite saying was, "A man's character is defined by what he does when no one is looking." This just goes to show the kind of man he truly was.
Nothing could make Dale more happy than being surrounded by his grandchildren and his two great-grandsons. Spending time with close family and friends is where he was most happy and where his personality shined.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Evelyn, and his most precious daughter, Sarah Vaughn (Walton) Tromblee. We know Sarah welcomed "her daddy" with a hug into a peaceful afterlife.
Dale is survived by his high school sweetheart, Dale M. (Hackett) Walton; his son "Bud" Adam (Randi) and their children Abigail (Marshall) and their son Liam, Kaleb (Shawntee) and his son Easton; and his mother Jade Ramos; Makenna (Marcus) and Evelyn, Sarah (Rolland) and their children, Avery (Jared) Madison (Avery Landry), and Natalie; his siblings, Faye (Jim Sr.) Martineau, Bryan (Sherry) Walton, Craig (Melissa) Walton, and Lisa (Larry) Smith. He also had many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
There will be no viewing hours out of the respect of Dale's wishes. However, there will be a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Name Church in Au Sable Forks on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Holy Name Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Au Sable Forks Volunteer Ambulance Service or the American Diabetes Association.
Services were entrusted to Heidrick-Zaumetzer Funeral Home, 3 College St., Au Sable Forks.
