Anne Harriett (Stickney)Sherman - 97 years young - joined the angels on Sunday, May 21, 2023. She was born in a blizzard on March 12, 1926 at the Tobey Homestead in Jay, NY. to George and Louie (Flint) Stickney. She was surrounded by Springer Spaniels and a few horses. She and the family moved from Jay to Tacoma, Washington, to various locations in California then to St. Petersburg, Florida and finally back to Jay. In the past 3 years, Anne was a resident at the Neighborhood House in Keene Valley and finally at Elderwood at Uihlein in Lake Placid.
Anne attended Stanford University, was married and had 3 children; Brian, Edward (Ted) and Sue.
Anne worked in many diverse vocations during her lifetime. These included retail work, travel industry and lastly at the Au Sable Forks Free Library. She was most proud of her titles of Mom and Grandma.
She was a devoted parishioner of St. James Episcopal Church in Au Sable Forks for many years and gave of her time and talents on many committees there and in the community including the Garden Club in Jay. Anne was also a founding member of JEMS, which she enjoyed very much.
Anne was welcomed in Heaven by her parents, her brother Jerome, her husbands: Dr. Robert M. Stork, William C. Hahn and Linwood B. Sherman and her daughter-in-law Barbara Stillwell Stork.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Brian and Christie Stork of Jay, Ted Stork and Mary Barrie of La Canada Flintridge, CA, and Sue and Jeff Porter of Hollywood, CA. Her grandchildren: Heidi (Brandon) McCraw of Appomattox, VA, Elizabeth Stork of Au Sable Forks, and Emily (Clement Cid) of Pasadena, CA. Her great-grandchildren: Jeshua Hundt and Meghan Hundt of Virginia; Kamden Ruff and Killyan Ruff and Paisley Hand of Au Sable Forks; Sebastien Stork-Cid of Pasadena, CA.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service to follow at 5:00 p.m. at Heidrick-Zaumetzer Funeral Home, 3 College St. in Au Sable Forks.
Donations in her memory may be made to St. James Episcopal Church in Au Sable Forks.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Neighborhood House in Keene Valley where she was made to feel like family. We would also like to thank the staff of Elderwood for their excellent quality of care and compassion to Anne in her final days.
