Alton M. Stevens, 72, of Plattsburgh, NY, passed away at home on March 13, 2024.
Alton was a graduate of Au Sable Valley High School and Paul Smiths College. He was employed as a cook at several area restaurants and he also worked as a mechanic at several businesses.
In later years he was known as Mr. Ding-A-Ling, selling ice cream from his big yellow ice cream truck. Alton’s greatest pride was serving his country in the United States Navy, being stationed at places like Bermuda and the Philippines. He was a proud veteran of the Vietnam war.
He is predeceased by his parents, Albert and Martha (Dockum) Stevens; his sister Brenda Stevens; and his sister-in-law Marilyn Stevens.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jeanne (Bradley) Stevens; his daughters Felicia (Stevens) Doucharm, and Danielle Stevens; his sister Mary (Stevens) Geer, and brother-in-law Joseph Geer, and his brother Arthur Stevens; his grandchildren Samantha and Brandon Doucharm. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alton’s memory to the American Heart Association.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. with a Funeral Service to follow at 5:00 p.m. at Heidrick Funeral Home, 48 Court St., Plattsburgh, NY, with cremation to follow.
